The Ankh is an ancient Egyptian symbol of life and is a hieroglyphic character often seen in the proximity of Deities and Pharaohs.

The Ankh symbol has also been discovered in excavations as far as Mesopotamia and Persia.
The meaning of the Ankh symbol is widely accepted as life, immortality and sometimes also fertility, however the origins of the Ankh are largely unknown and remain a mystery lost in time.

The image is sometimes associated with a symbol of male and female and as such bears a meaning of fertility to some academics. It has also been compared to a side view of the vertebra of a bull suggesting a representation of power and strength.

 

The meaning of the Ankh symbol is widely accepted as life, immortality and sometimes also fertility, however the origins of the Ankh are largely unknown and remain a mystery lost in time.

The four pointed cross associated with the crucifixion in Christianity has similar meaning as the three pointed cross of the Ankh, in terms of eternal life symbolism. The Egyptian religions, in contrast however prescribed to many gods as opposed to one.

The Ankh symbol is not generally seen as a celebration of any singular faith of ancient Egypt, but rather as a celebration of life with a mystical twist.
